Phu Quoc sits in the Gulf of Thailand, so its seasons differ from central Vietnam. The dry season runs from about December to March or April, and the rainy season follows until November. In the dry season the skies are clear and the sea is calm, which suits a beach holiday.
In the rainy season, short heavy showers often come in the afternoon. The west coast gets rough from about June to September, and swimming and boat trips are hard on many days. In return, rooms are noticeably cheaper and the island is quiet.
