Bangkok in October

The rainy season is ending. Rain drops off noticeably toward the end of the month. The Vegetarian Festival runs for nine days from the first day of the ninth lunar month, and vegetarian food stalls appear around the city. The date changes every year.

Days averaged 33°C and nights 25°C. Midday was for air conditioning, a cold drink or a long lunch out of the sun. With 14 rain days on average, a wet day was rarely more than a few days away. Counts moved moderately between years: 10 in 2007, 19 in 2009.

This was the last frequently wet month; rain eased to about 5 days the month after. 30 days past 30°C made it a month for early starts and a long lunch indoors. Wet days did not mess around: about 21 mm each, the kind of rain that drives you into a doorway.
