Kagoshima in July

After the rains end in mid-July, full summer heat arrives. On sunny days it is best to finish any walking near Sakurajima in the morning. Humidity is high and you will sweat, so carry a towel and plenty of water.

It was a hot month: 32°C by day and 25°C after dark. About 12 days a month saw rain, enough that a wet-weather plan was worth having. The average is 12, but individual years ran from 5 (2008) to 18 (2010).

26 days past 30°C made it a month for early starts and a long lunch indoors. Wet days did not mess around: about 31 mm each, the kind of rain that drives you into a doorway.
