Tokyo weather by month
2006-2025, 20 years of records · Not a forecast
Tokyo has four clear seasons. Winters are sunny with little snow, and cherry blossoms are at their best from late March to early April. The rainy season runs from early June to mid July, followed by a hot, sticky summer. Around September the autumn rain front and typhoons overlap, so it is one of the wettest stretches of the year. The easiest months for walking are April and late October through November. Many shops close for the first three days of January, and rooms get tight in Golden Week, so book early. The subway is dense enough that you rarely need a taxi.
Weighing daytime warmth against rain days, May came out as the easiest month. January was the quiet stretch with 4 rain days, against 11 in June, July, September and October.
